Physio & Rehab

We provide specialist physiotherapy and rehabilitation packages for a range of neurological conditions.

Please select the sections below to expand the details of each condition.

Stroke

We provide individualised treatment programmes for people who have been discharged from NHS or other inpatient services. This treatment is delivered at the patient’s home or at our specialist neuro physiotherapy clinic in Langstone.

Once a month we hold a Stroke Shoulder Pain clinic with great results.

Spinal Cord Injury

We specialise in providing physiotherapy support and treatment for people who have sustained a SCI. We have a range of specialist equipment for SCI to try at our dedicated clinic in Langstone and some can be hired to continue use at home.

Acquired Brain Injury

We provide bespoke treatment packages for people who have an Acquired Brain Injury through accident (Traumatic Brain Injury TBI) or other cause. We work with Solicitors and Case Managers to develop a team approach which addresses the expressed and assessed needs of the client.

Treatment can be at home in the community or in our well setup clinic.

Traumatic Brain Injury

Physiotherapy can help you to rewire the brain by using neuroplastic training principles which can help you to improve your movement and independence in a range of physical tasks such as: improving your ability to sit, stand, walk and use your arms, improving strength, improving cardiovascular fitness. Our specialist neuro physiotherapists have built up significant expertise in the treatment and management of TBI and will be able to support at any stage of your rehabilitation / recovery journey.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS)

We provide treatment and support for people with progressive neurological conditions like MS. This can be in the home or in the clinic where they can try our specialist equipment to assist with mobility and exercise.

Parkinsons Disease

Morrello is an official licensed provider of PD Warrior. This is a specialist exercise programme developed for Parkinson’s which is run by Physiotherapists and supported by technicians. The programme has an educational element and is delivered in individual and group settings. For some people, we may recommend they continue with alternative exercise routines. Morrello is also one of the partner clinics from the “Strolll Reality DTx” home exercise device, which uses Augmented reality headset to project interactive exercises and games into your own living room.

All of our Parkinson’s exercise routines are bespoke and adjusted to your presentation of Parkinson’s.

Cerebral Palsy (CP)

We have special expertise in supporting children and adults with CP through treatment blocks and ongoing support with Morrello-Mini

Vestibular Rehabilitation

We provide rehabilitation to alleviate problems caused by vestibular disorders such as vertigo, dizziness, imbalance and falls. Following a comprehensive assessment by a specialist vestibular physiotherapist, a customised treatment plan will be provided, which will include elements of habituation, gaze stability and balance training. We also provide repositioning manoeuvres, including the Epley manoeuvre, for patients with Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV).

Motor Neurone Disease

Our therapists can help you manage fatigue, cramps and stiffness in muscles and joints.    They can advise on exercise, including assisted or passive exercise where someone from the team or a carer helps you. Exercise cannot reverse damage to muscle groups weakened by MND, but it can strengthen muscles not yet affected and help improve or maintain function as well as the range of movement in your joints.

Our specialist physiotherapists can also advise on ways to help prevent or manage falls and stay mobile safely for as long as possible or help select the most suitable aids to move around.

Functional Neurological Disorder

Since about 2012 there has been increasing evidence to support the role of physiotherapy as part of treatment for people with FND, especially those with functional movement disorders and limb weakness.

People with FND very often have fatigue, weakness or pain which they find is made worse by exercise. Our specialist neuro physiotherapists are experienced in FND and can help you select those activities and exercises which give insight and control over your symptoms.

Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia

People with HSP may develop leg stiffness and problems walking, such as stumbling and tripping, particularly on uneven ground. These problems are caused by weak hip muscles and difficulty bending the foot upwards. Some people may eventually need to use a walking aid or a wheelchair to help them get around. Our specialist physiotherapists may be able to help you with movement strategies, exercises and mobility aids that are going to keep you mobile and safe.

Ataxia

Generally speaking, rehabilitation for people with ataxia comprises elements of a compensatory or restorative approach. A compensatory approach (which includes orthotics and devices, movement retraining, reducing the degrees of freedom and optimising the environment) seems valuable for teaching people practical, everyday strategies and ways of managing the condition. Restorative approaches aim to improve function by improving the underlying impairment. It has become clear through research, that despite cerebellar damage, some improvement in symptoms can occur with practice in people with chronic and progressive conditions, through the process of neuro plasticity.

The specialist therapists at morrello, will employ a combination of restorative and compensatory approaches guided by your clinical presentation, your goals and wider context. Specialist neuro physiotherapists at morrello, can develop a bespoke exercise routine to improve gait, balance and trunk control for people with ataxia, and can reduce activity limitations and support increased participation. With our exercise routines, safety is paramount, and the prevention of falls is therefore an important part of our interventions in patients with progressive ataxia given their high chances of fall-related injuries. Regular assessment and monitoring is required to adapt strategies to changes in performance and avoid falls related injuries.

Shoulder Pain Clinic

In this clinic we assess shoulder pain using ultrasound imaging during movement. The imaging allows us to see the muscle fibres contracting real time and develop bespoke exercise for the shoulder to heal and recover from injury. This is especially useful for post Stroke shoulder pain.
