Morrello Marvels Scarecrow Trail 2026: A Growing Community Success in Langstone

The Morrello Marvels CIC has once again brought the Langstone community together through its much-loved annual fundraising event, the Morrello Marvels Scarecrow Trail. Held from 28th March to 13th April 2026, this year’s trail delivered a significant increase in participation, accessibility, and funds raised—all while maintaining its core mission of community connection and charitable impact.

A Scenic and Accessible Route Through Langstone

Set along a thoughtfully planned, accessible walking route around Langstone in Newport, the trail guided participants through a variety of well-known local landmarks and community spaces. Families and individuals followed clues across:

  • Ty Newport Hotel
  • Coldra Court Hotel
  • Langstone Business Park
  • Residential housing estates
  • Poppy Park (recently renovated with funding from Langstone Community Council)
  • Chepstow Road
  • Cabin Cwtch
  • Langstone Garden Centre

The route was carefully designed to ensure inclusivity, making it suitable for families with young children, prams, and individuals with varying mobility needs.

Record-Breaking Growth and Community Engagement

This year marked a major milestone for the event. A total of 400 maps were distributed, compared to approximately 90 maps in 2025—representing an impressive 344% increase in participation.

A key factor behind this growth was the support of Langstone Community Council, who funded the cost of map distribution. This allowed all participants to take part free of charge, removing financial barriers and making the event more inclusive than ever before.

  • 250 maps were distributed via Langstone Primary School to families before the Easter holidays
  • Remaining maps were made available through Ty Newport Hotel, who also hosted the first two scarecrow models for the second consecutive year

Last year, maps were sold at £3 each—making this year’s fully funded approach a significant step forward in accessibility and community engagement.

A Creative Trail with a Literary Twist

The 2026 theme centred around children’s books and fairytales, featuring 30 handcrafted scarecrow models placed along the route. Each model acted as a visual clue, challenging participants to guess the story it represented.

Participants recorded their answers on their maps before submitting them into a designated post box at Morrello Clinic, where a photo opportunity marked the completion of the trail.

To further encourage fundraising, each map included a QR code and website link directing participants to the Local Giving page. Donations were incentivised with a raffle, offering one ticket per £1 donated. The raffle draw is scheduled for Thursday 15th April 2026.

Over £2,000 Raised for a Meaningful Cause

Combined, the trail and raffle have raised over £2,000, with the final total set to be announced on the Morrello Marvels Facebook page following the raffle draw.

Supporting Families Through Community-Led Initiatives

Morrello Marvels CIC is dedicated to supporting families—particularly mothers—through initiatives that promote wellbeing, connection, and access to essential support services. Their mission focuses on creating inclusive, community-driven events and resources that positively impact both physical and mental health.

Funds raised through events like the Scarecrow Trail directly contribute to these efforts, enabling the organisation to expand its reach and continue supporting local families.

Positive Feedback from the Community

The response from participants this year has been overwhelmingly positive, highlighting the event’s accessibility, creativity, and family-friendly atmosphere:

“Such a brilliant way to get the kids outside and exploring—everything was easy to follow and so well thought out.”

“We loved how inclusive it felt this year. Making it free made such a difference for our family.”

“The fairytale theme was magical—my children were completely engaged the whole way round.”

“It’s rare to find something that’s fun, affordable, and for a genuinely good cause. We’ll definitely be back next year.”

A Heartfelt Thank You to Sponsors

The success of the 2026 Scarecrow Trail would not have been possible without the generous support of local businesses and organisations. Sponsors who contributed significantly to the total funds raised include:

A special acknowledgment is extended to Langstone Community Council for their substantial support in funding map distribution and helping ensure the event remained accessible to all. Their commitment to community wellbeing has played a pivotal role in the event’s growth and success.

Looking Ahead

With participation soaring and community feedback stronger than ever, the Morrello Marvels Scarecrow Trail continues to establish itself as a key event in the Langstone calendar. The organisation looks forward to building on this momentum, working alongside local partners and sponsors to deliver even more inclusive, engaging, and impactful events in the year ahead.
