Save the date: Friday 13th September 2025 – the inspiring Morrello Marvels Para-TRY-athlon is back for its edition, and it’s set to be bigger and braver than ever. After last running in 2023, this unique, family-oriented, inclusive paratriathlon event returns to support people living with neurological conditions — combining sport, community, and charity in one extraordinary day.

Whether you’re walking, swimming, cycling, or rowing, this is not about distance. It’s about determination, and doing what’s possible — whatever that looks like for you.

What Is the Morrello Marvels Para-TRY-athlon?

The Para-TRY-athlon is a fully inclusive, adaptive triathlon-style event held in South Wales, open to people of all abilities. It’s designed for anyone living with or affected by neurological conditions, including stroke, MS, brain injury, Parkinson’s, and rare conditions like Superficial Siderosis.

Here’s what makes this UK-based paratriathlon so unique:

• No fixed distances – it’s a best-effort event where every achievement counts.
• A specially built swimming pool in the car park, made possible by a sand base donated by Crown Top Soil.
• Cycling, running, and rowing activities using adaptive fitness equipment and rowers.
• Teams of up to 3 participants, with at least one team member living with a neurological condition. Team members can take turns to complete one of the three elements each or join forces and complete each discipline together

• One team member (team captain) must identify as living with a long-term condition

Want to know what this event really means to our community? Here’s Rhys Holmes, a Morrello patient, sharing his personal story from the 2023 event:

“Back in 2023, I was asked if I wanted to take part in the Morrello Marvels ‘Para-TRY-athlon’, which seemed scary… until I saw it written down. Having regained the ability to walk again through physiotherapy at Morrello, it seemed like a good opportunity to do something fun alongside others who are also fighting to live their best lives.

I pledged a walking distance I knew I could manage — and completed it without issue. Living with a neurological condition means that what’s ‘doable’ can change day by day.

Luckily, it was a good day symptom-wise. The weather was scorching, but we stayed hydrated and kept going. The biggest surprise? I discovered I could cycle again — on an adapted recumbent trike. That moment reminded me I still have things I can do. It was such a blessing. My uncle, sister, and niece joined me in our team, Team Superficial Siderosis, and we had a brilliant day. Oh, and the cake? Absolutely amazing!”
